Rugs are household items prone to lose their lustre, texture and design due to poor maintenance culture. They don’t beautify homes only and give that extra finishes to furniture arrangements. In fact, more reasons utmost care should be undertaken to ensure rugs are always maintained and kept clean.

The right maintenance and care culture leave the rugs looking radiant like it appeared from day one of purchase all through the years. You can tell a quality rug by its ability and durability to maintain its original appearance and style through usage. However, this is a function of how well it is groomed and preserved.

Find below tips on how to care for your rugs:

1. Take time to clean your rug regularly. It is advisable to use a light vacuum as it prevents germs from getting into the rug. Save yourself the hassle of cleaning dirt by using walk-off mats at all entrances to absorb soil and moisture.

2. In situations where water or liquid spills, place towels or cloth over the wet area and put pressure with a heavy object then leave overnight.

3. The drying of rugs should be both sided i.e. on both front and back sides.

4. Don’t fold rugs if you intend keeping it for a long time. Instead of folding, roll the front side and keep with a cloth wrapping.

5. Don’t keep furniture with razor sharp legs on top of a rug. This can cause wear and tear.

6. To remove food leaks on the rug, rub gently with a dull knife or spoon.

7. For a longer lifespan of rug, rotate or re-position it every six months. This would prevent wearing and fading on the surface too.

8. Lastly, consider expert cleaning service once every two years.
